(More customer reviews)The scale is pictured against a blue floor. The actual scale has a clear, non-tinted glass platform with silvery metal parts underneath -- look carefully for the perimeter of the glass. It might pose a trip/stumble hazard unless kept well out of path. The surface could be slippery against wet feet (but who uses a scale while wet?). I suppose you could place a small mat on it for traction and visibility; that would alter the appearance but not the accuracy since it re-zeroes itself for every weighing.
The scale uses three lithium disk batteries which should last several years. To activiate the it for a weighing, you tap the glass (near a corner works best) and let it auto-calibrate to zero. When the display shows steady zero, step on. The display is fairly large and is backlit for good visibility. The reading persists for several seconds after you step off. Weight units can be set to pounds, kilograms, or stones/pounds (1 stone=14 lbs). The scale seems commendably linear, repeatable and accurate (tested with exercise weights). This is a very handsome instrument and its good looks should last.
